About the Mess

IMG 1133.v2 225x300 About the MessHi. I’m Jess and I am a blogaholic.

(Hi, Jess.)

My Story

I’m Jessica Severson: a procrastinator, a former working mom who is suddenly staying at home, a Dr-Dr’s wife, a non-practicing lawyer, an Autism Mom, a devoted reader, a penny pincher, a coupon clipper, a new New England-er, a low-key agnostic, a top-notch speller, a hardcore blogger and a Twitter fiend.Through it all I remain a nice girl with a big mouth.

I’m married to Eric and we have a preschool-age son and an infant daughter.

Our indomitable son Graham turns 3 in July, 2012.  He often goes by Bug or some variation thereof. Graham has always been a tough kid and he was finally diagnosed with PDD-NOS (Pervasive Developmental Disorder Not Otherwise Specified) in the Autism Spectrum in February, 2011. After over a year of therapy he’s getting ready to start preschool in the fall.

In February, 2012 baby Tessa was born, aka Tesser. So far she is still something of a fussbudget and a habitually short-napper, but she’s smiley and chunky and I want to eat her little baby legs.

We’ve lived in the Boston area since 2010. Eric, the impressive MD-PhD, does impressive doctor-doctor things.  I’ve done all kinds of work, from lawyering to teachering, but currently I’m staying home, raising my kids and working on this blog.

My Blogging Philosophy

I live on a budget. I suck at fashion, decor, beauty and all that fancy stuff. I don’t hold back much. I blog about my life and I focus on the underbelly a lot more than I worry about taking cool pictures. There are very few things I won’t talk about. (But I have a strict no-poop-discussion policy.)

Please comment, I’d love to get to know you better! But be aware comments are moderated. Please exercise the same good manners here that you would anywhere else.

I have a full-disclosure policy when it comes to ads and compensation. I prefer to work with brands that are in my real-life price range. So you’ll always know I’m behind what I say and who I say it about. I promise you to be totally honest in any and all reviews.

If you’re interested in advertising on the site or if you’re a brand looking for a partnership, please go to my PR page or hit the contact me button.

I do a book post on Fridays, which includes book reviews, giveaways, author Q&A’s, etc. I am active on Netgalley and Edelweiss. If there is a book you’re interested in passing along to me, please contact me via email or Twitter. You can see some of my book content on my Reading Page.
